Boot Camp Extreme: May 30, 2000

Well... I think we all know Boot Camp, one of the best maps ever made. 'Boot Camp Extreme', authored by TommyD has been built from the ground upwards based on Boot Camp.

The thing about this level is it innovation, this is only TommyD's second map and its bloody huge. We all know that Boot Camp is a big level. Although TommyD has based the camp extreme on Boot Camp the original, it's quite different. The layout is the same, but the way it plays is different. There are altered areas in the map and he has added a new section.

Texture alignment isn't spot-on and neither is the weapon placement. However with TommyD's experience and the size of the level it's hardly surprising. I spent a while running around the map and see it as quite playable in a deathmatch environment.

Summary:

Like I said, texture alignment and placement need to be worked on but overall Boot Camp Extreme is a good map and will play well. TommyD has seen a goal he wants to achieve with a map and has worked hard to see it realised. A lot of mapper's start-up projects and don't finish them; Tommy has seen this through to the end and has my congratulations. I hope he reads this and goes on to make even better maps.

Take a look at it and see for your self!
